What makes a fire crackle
Wood contains pockets of water and sap. When they heat up they turn to steam and burst through the wood, making a sharp click. Crackles come in clusters as a new area catches, while the flames themselves produce a low, breathing roar.
How our fire is generated
A slowly breathing bass layer makes the roar. Crackles are tiny bursts of noise, scattered at random but clumped together the way a real fire behaves, and an occasional larger pop stands in for a shifting log.
Questions
Is fireplace sound good for sleep?
The crackles are irregular, which some people find soothing and others distracting. Lower the fire and add brown noise if it keeps you awake.
Can I add rain?
Yes. The Cabin Fire preset on the home page combines fire and rain.
